JOURNAL OVERVIEW

The Global Emergency and Critical Care is a scientific, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by the Turkish Emergency Medicine Foundation. The journal is published three times per year (April, August, December) and aims to publish high-quality scientific articles in the emergency medicine field and related disciplines.

The journal's editorial and publication processes are shaped in accordance with guidelines from major international organizations including the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), Council of Science Editors (CSE), Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), European Association of Science Editors (EASE), and National Information Standards Organization (NISO).

OPEN ACCESS POLICY

Principles: The journal provides immediate open access to its content based on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports greater global exchange of knowledge.

BOAI Compliance: The Open Access Policy is based on the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI). Open access to peer-reviewed research literature means its free availability on the public internet, permitting any users to:

  • Read, download, and copy articles
  • Distribute and print articles
  • Search and link to full texts
  • Crawl articles for indexing
  • Pass articles as data to software

Access Requirements: The only constraint on reproduction and distribution is to give authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited.

No Fees: The Global Emergency and Critical Care does not demand any subscription fee, publication fee, or similar payment for access to electronic resources.

CREATIVE COMMONS LICENSING

License Type: The journal is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0).

License Permissions: This license permits third parties to share and adapt the content for non-commercial purposes by giving appropriate credit to the original work.

What is Creative Commons: A Creative Commons license is a public copyright license that provides free distribution of copyrighted works or studies. Authors use the CC license to transfer the right to use, share, or modify their work to third parties.

Benefits: Open access supports interdisciplinary development and encourages collaboration between different disciplines, contributing to scientific publishing literature through more access to articles and a more transparent review process.

ADVERTISEMENT POLICY

Editorial Independence: The journal's advertising sales and editorial processes are separated to ensure editorial independence and reduce the effects of financial interests.

Advertiser Responsibility: Advertisers are responsible for ensuring that their advertisements comply with applicable laws regarding:

  • Deceptive content
  • Offensive content
  • Ethical issues

Author Responsibility: Statements or opinions stated in articles published in the journal do not reflect the views of the editors, editorial board, and/or publisher. The editors, editorial board, and publisher do not accept any responsibility or liability for such materials. All opinions published in the journal belong to the authors.

EDITORIAL STANDARDS AND GUIDELINES

Guiding Organizations: The journal follows standards and recommendations from:

  4. COPE - Committee on Publication Ethics
  5. EASE - European Association of Science Editors

Transparency and Best Practices: The journal is in conformity with the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

The journal requires and encourages authors and individuals involved in the evaluation process of submitted manuscripts to disclose any existing or potential conflicts of interest, including:

  • Financial conflicts
  • Consultant relationships
  • Institutional conflicts

Disclosure Requirements:

  • Any financial grants or other support received for a submitted study from individuals or institutions must be disclosed to the Editorial Board
  • All contributing authors must complete the ICMJE Potential Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form
  • The journal's Editorial Board resolves cases of potential conflict of interest following COPE and ICMJE guidelines

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

Review Type: Manuscripts submitted to the Global Emergency and Critical Care undergo a double-blind peer-review process.

Reviewer Selection: Each submission is reviewed by peer reviewers who are experts in their fields to ensure an unbiased evaluation process.

Final Authority: The Editor in Chief is the final authority in the decision-making process for all submissions.

APPEALS AND COMPLAINTS

Handling Process: The Editorial Board of the journal handles all appeal and complaint cases within the scope of COPE guidelines.

Author Procedures:

  • Authors should get in direct contact with the editorial office regarding their appeals and complaints
  • When needed, an ombudsperson may be assigned to resolve claims that cannot be resolved internally
  • The Editor in Chief is the final authority in the decision-making process for all appeals and complaints

RESEARCH ETHICS

Human Research: All human research must comply with the Helsinki Declaration as revised in 2013.

Ethical Approval: Original articles must include an Ethics Committee Approval Statement with:

  • Decision/file number
  • Date of approval
  • Name of the institution

Animal Research: Animal studies must follow:

  • ARRIVE guidelines
  • Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals

PUBLICATION ETHICS

Originality Requirements:

  • Originality, high scientific quality, and citation potential are the most important criteria for manuscript acceptance
  • Manuscripts must not have been previously published or presented in electronic or printed media
  • Authors must inform the journal if the manuscript has been submitted to another journal for evaluation and rejected

Plagiarism Prevention:

  • The journal uses Crossref Similarity Check to detect plagiarism
  • All submissions are screened for originality

Misconduct Handling: Cases of plagiarism, authorship disputes, or fraudulent use of data are handled in accordance with COPE guidelines.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY

Submission Requirements:

  • Withdrawal requests must be submitted in writing
  • All contributing authors must sign the withdrawal request
  • Reasons for withdrawal must be stated clearly

Review Process:

  • Each request is subject to the Editorial Board's review
  • Manuscripts are only assumed withdrawn upon Editorial Board's approval
  • Cases of plagiarism, authorship disputes, or fraudulent data are handled per COPE guidelines

AUTHORSHIP AND CONTRIBUTORSHIP

Authorship Criteria: The journal follows ICMJE recommendations for authorship and contributorship.

Acknowledgement: Individuals who contributed to the preparation of the manuscript but did not fulfill the authorship criteria should be acknowledged on the title page.

COPYRIGHT AND LICENSING

Author Rights: By signing the Copyright License Agreement, authors retain the copyright of their work.

License Agreement: Authors agree that articles accepted for publication by the Global Emergency and Critical Care will be licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0).
