CONTEXT

The Global Emergency and Critical Care is a scientific, peer-reviewed, open-access journal of the Turkish Emergency Medicine Foundation. The journal aims to publish scientifically high-quality articles that contribute to the emergency medicine literature and related fields.

EDITORIAL AND PUBLICATION PROCESS

The journal follows guidelines from:

  • International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE)
  • World Association of Medical Editors (WAME)
  • Council of Science Editors (CSE)
  • Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE)
  • European Association of Science Editors (EASE)
  • National Information Standards Organization (NISO)
  • Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing

Acceptance Criteria:

  • Originality of research
  • High scientific quality
  • Citation potential
  • Manuscripts must not have been previously published or presented in electronic or printed media
  • Authors must disclose if the manuscript has been submitted to another journal
  • Submission of previous reviewer reports expedites the evaluation process
  • Manuscripts presented at conferences should include detailed conference information (name, date, location)

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

  • Review Type: Double-blind peer-review process
  • Reviewers: Experts in their respective fields
  • Final Authority: Editor in Chief makes the final decision on all submissions
  • Detailed Information: Available on the journal's Ethical Policy page

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

  • Authors and individuals involved in manuscript evaluation must disclose any existing or potential conflicts of interest (financial, consultant, institutional)
  • Financial grants and other support must be disclosed to the Editorial Board
  • All contributing authors must complete the ICMJE Potential Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form
  • The Editorial Board resolves conflicts of interest cases following COPE and ICMJE guidelines

APPEAL AND COMPLAINT

  • The Editorial Board handles all appeals and complaints within COPE guidelines
  • Authors should contact the editorial office directly
  • An ombudsperson may be assigned for unresolved claims
  • Editor in Chief has final authority on all appeals and complaints

COPYRIGHT AND LICENSE

  • Authors retain copyright of their work
  • Accepted articles are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0)
  • Authors must sign the Copyright License Agreement
  • Open access approach supports interdisciplinary development and collaboration

Statements and opinions in published manuscripts reflect the authors' views, not those of the editors, editorial board, or publisher. The editors, editorial board, and publisher disclaim responsibility for such materials. Final responsibility rests with the authors.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Authors must submit the following documents:

  1. Cover Letter
  2. ICMJE Conflict of Interest Statement Form (for all contributing authors)
  3. Title Page (separate document) including:
    • Manuscript title and short title (running head, max 50 characters)
    • Author names, affiliations, and major degrees
    • ORCID IDs of all authors
    • Corresponding author's name, address, telephone (including mobile), fax, and email
    • Grant information and other sources of support
    • Acknowledgement of non-author contributors
  1. Abstract (divided into appropriate sections)
  2. Keywords (4-8 keywords in English for indexing)
  3. Main Article Text (divided into appropriate sections)
  4. References (styled according to journal requirements)
  5. Blinded Main Text (exclude all identifying information for double-blind review)
  6. Copyright Agreement and Acknowledgement of Authorship Form (wet-signed and scanned)
  7. Figures (as standalone images in .JPG or .TIFF format)
  8. Ethics Committee Approval Statement (for original articles: include decision/file number, date, and institution name)

MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION

General Requirements:

  • Manuscripts must follow ICMJE Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals
  • Submission is only through the online manuscript submission system at https://globemcc.com/
  • Manuscripts submitted via other media or by non-authors will not be evaluated

Trial Reporting Guidelines by Article Type:

  • Human research: Helsinki Declaration (revised 2013)
  • Systematic reviews and meta-analyses: PRISMA guidelines
  • Case reports: CARE case report guidelines
  • Clinical trials: CONSORT
  • Animal studies: ARRIVE and Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
  • Diagnostic accuracy: STARD Guidelines
  • Non-randomized public behavior: TREND

Technical Evaluation:

  • Initial technical evaluation by editorial office staff
  • Manuscripts not conforming to guidelines are returned for corrections
  • Authors must submit the following forms during initial submission:
    • Copyright Agreement and Acknowledgement of Authorship Form
    • ICMJE Potential Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form (all authors)

MANUSCRIPT TYPES AND SPECIFICATIONS

Original Articles

  • Most important article type providing new information based on original research
  • Structure: Introduction, Materials and Methods (with subheadings), Results, Discussion, Study Limitations, Conclusion
  • Statistical Analysis: Must follow international statistical reporting standards
  • Data Presentation:
    • Parametric tests: mean ± standard deviation
    • Non-parametric tests: median (minimum-maximum) and percentiles (25th and 75th)
    • Advanced analyses: relative risk (RR), odds ratio (OR), hazard ratio (HR) with confidence intervals (CI) and p values

Editorial Comments

  • Brief critical commentary on published research articles
  • Authors selected and invited by the journal
  • No abstract, keywords, tables, figures, or images

Review Articles

  • Written by authors with extensive knowledge and high publication/citation records
  • May be invited by the journal
  • Should describe, discuss, and evaluate current knowledge and clinical practice
  • Should guide future research

Case Reports

  • Limited space available
  • Focus on rare cases, diagnostic/treatment challenges, new therapies, or educative cases
  • Structure: Introduction, Case Report, Discussion, Conclusion

Letters to the Editor

  • Discuss important aspects of previously published articles
  • Can present comments on published manuscripts
  • Can submit educative cases
  • Format: Unstructured text, no abstract, keywords, tables, figures, or images
  • Must properly cite the manuscript being commented on

Scientific Letters

  • Announce new, clinically important scientific developments
  • Length: Maximum 900 words
  • References: Limited to 10
  • Tables/Figures: Limited to 2
  • No subheadings

Clinical Imaging / Visual Diagnosis

  • Images must be typical for diagnosis and educational
  • Length: Maximum 400 words (excluding header and references)
  • Authors: Maximum 3
  • Images: Maximum 6
  • References: Maximum 5

History Articles

  • Explains events related to emergency and general medicine
  • Historical findings must result from relevant research
  • Length: Maximum 900 words
  • References: Maximum 10
  • No subheadings

FORMATTING GUIDELINES

Tables

  • Include in main document after reference list
  • Number consecutively in order of reference
  • Include descriptive title above table
  • Define abbreviations in footnotes below table
  • Create using word processor's table tool
  • Data should support, not repeat, main text

Figures and Figure Legends

  • Submit as separate files (TIFF or JPEG format)
  • Do not embed in Word document
  • Submit subunits separately (not merged)
  • Do not label subunits (a, b, c, etc.)
  • Can use arrows, arrowheads, stars, asterisks to support legends
  • Must be blinded (remove identifying information)
  • Minimum resolution: 300 DPI
  • Minimum dimensions: 100x100 mm
  • Figure legends listed at end of main document

Abbreviations and Acronyms

  • Define at first use in abstract and main text
  • Provide in parentheses following definition

Product Information

  • Include product name, producer, city, and country in parentheses
  • Example: "Discovery St PET/CT scanner (General Electric, Milwaukee, WI, USA)"

References, Tables, and Figures

  • Must be referred to in main text
  • Number consecutively in order of reference

Study Limitations

  • Mention limitations, drawbacks, and shortcomings in Discussion section before conclusion

REFERENCES

General Guidelines:

  • Prefer latest, most up-to-date publications
  • For ahead-of-print citations, include DOI number
  • Authors responsible for reference accuracy
  • Journal titles abbreviated per Index Medicus/Medline/PubMed standards
  • Author listing: 6 or fewer = list all; 7 or more = list first 6 followed by "et al."
  • Citation format in text: Use closed-source numbers in parentheses [1-4]

  • Deadline: 30 days from decision letter date
  • Request extension before initial 30-day period expires if needed
  • Revised manuscripts not submitted within allocated time may have revision option cancelled

After Acceptance:

  • Manuscripts are copy-edited for grammar, punctuation, and format
  • Published online as ahead-of-print before scheduled issue
  • PDF proof sent to corresponding author
  • Publication approval requested within 2 days of proof receipt

WITHDRAWAL POLICY

  • Withdrawal requests must be submitted in writing, signed by all contributing authors
  • Reasons for withdrawal must be stated clearly
  • Subject to Editorial Board review and approval
  • Cases of plagiarism, authorship disputes, or fraudulent data handled per COPE guidelines
